Wonders when the war will end and says some people in Louisiana think that as long as Lincoln is president, the country will continue to be at war. Reminisces about being part of the Wide Awakes, a campaign group affiliated with the Republican party. He mentions the lamp he carried as part of the Wide Awake uniform, but says now "I had rather be a soldier than a Wide Awake."
